Awards and Accomplishments of HAMAA:
Without meaning to “blow our own horn” unduly, HAMAA is proud of our ability to establish and conduct meaningful programs to meet the many needs of our Hmong Community. For instance:
  • Our HAMAA “Butterfly Dancers,” youth ages 6-18 years, drawn from over 80 students in our Cultural and Dance Activity represent the highest form of dance art and won first place in their first competition at the Hmong New Year Celebration in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1999 and again won first and second places in the Hmong American New Year in Minneapolis, 2001.
  • HAMAA’s Family Empowerment Network won the coveted “Award for Outstanding Service to Unemployed Minneapolis Residents” on 5 October 2000, in recognition of the many years of service in helping Southeast Asian New Americans obtain permanent jobs with benefits at a record holding 95 percent retention rate.
  • Our Executive Director, Mr. Xang Vang, on 15 September 2000, was commissioned a member of the Minneapolis Empowerment Zone Governance Board representing the Hmong and Lao Communities for our future development.
  • Our HAMAA Youth Empowerment Partners Program hosted an effort by our teens in Summer 2001 to raise funds for the Youth Council and the Patrick Henry Asian Club through a food services contract at Minnesota Renaissance. Our group won accolades for professional organization with a specific request to return in succeeding years and we also won a “Top Ten” award for performance.
  • HAMAANET, our internet-capable computer network was judged the most advanced of all Asian-Pacific Minnesotan computer systems by Asian Media Access, September, 2001.
