History of HAMAA
Activity was principally focused on the aforementioned policing by Hmong auxiliaries attached to the Minneapolis Police Department and operating through HAMAA. Block Captains were organized for “Safe Neighborhoods” and reporting of morally or legally improper behavior became a regular event in support of cleaning up the Hmong Community areas of South and Near Northside Minneapolis. In 1993, the Council of Hmong Elders was formed with the primary role of adjudicating Hmong Community culture-based conflicts, such as traditional marriage rules and etiquette, family relations and spouse abuse, and especially the exploding number of cases of parent-youth cultural conflict. Parallel to those responsibilities went the role as provider of qualified specialists for the court system. More details |

Staff and Board
Staff: Perform a daily operations are conducted in accordance with written policy of the Board of Directors and in concert with the contracts and grant guidelines funding the activity areas. Staff is stabilized, growing at the rate of two annually (sustainable) and professional in training, experience and performance. The Employment Program receives the highest grades for performance in the City System. The Dance Class Team won acclaim again, taking first and second place in the Hmong American New Year Celebration at the Humphrey Dome in 2001. The Youth Program points to continually rising school grades of the young and an outstanding “Earning by Learning” book reading program that counted hundreds of books read by the students over the summer and fostered continuing enthusiasm from each young reader going into the new school year.
Youth
Volunteers are an important part of HAMAA, many high school and college age students volenteer their time at HAMAA. Without the many volunteers that we have, it would be very difficult to run many of the youth programs that we have at HAMAA. The Employment and Youth Program Directors joined forces to collect volunteer tutors for the summer and the new school year. All assist in basic educational actions with the youth, adult education and training programs. More details |
