Butterfly Dance Center -- is a program for Hmong Youth (ages 6-21 years) which works to develop healthy minds and bodies. Our emphasis on dance is cultural from the viewpoint of the story lines enacted by the dancers; personal from the activities centered on individual development of mind, body and appreciation for self and others, and; Community-based from the emphasis on participation in events and celebrations honoring our old life patterns while engaging the new American rules as models for our Community development in the new land. Program Elements:
• Increase the number of Hmong Youth (ages 6-21 years) participating regularly in the dance and culture program
• Increase Hmong youth school attendance and consequently academic achievement
• Build Hmong youth self-esteem through a combination of education, school, physical exercise and the arts which provides the opportunity for each youth to excel personally while sharing cooperatively with others
• Help Hmong Youth establish life-long career development and leadership skills
