A Bilingual Educational Assistant with the Minneapolis Public School System, Mr. Vang is trained and experienced in the many facets of Community Safety and Security needs.
Receiving his Associates of Arts Degree at the University of Wisconsin, Barron County Center in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, in May, 1994, provided Mr. Vang with the background to enter service as a Youth Sports Director. Knowing the pressing education needs of the Hmong youth today, he served as a volunteer Bilingual Aide to Ladysmith Elementary School in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
Continuing his own education, Mr. Vang elected to study Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology at Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, where he achieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in December, 1996. During his years of study, where he was entered on the Dean’s List, he served as a Computer Tutor in the College Lab and has since gained a great understanding of the challenges facing our Hmong people in the new land of technology.
Placing his newly gained education to work immediately in 1997, Mr. Vang joined the Police Reserve Unit, Department of Police in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Service as a Special Deputy Sheriff in the LaCrosse County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Department one year later has provided the basic hands-on experience that led to his selection as a Community liaison with the Ramsey County Anti-Gang Strike Force.
Certified in Mobile Fire Crew Training with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and his fluent verbal and written ability in Hmong and English have enhanced Mr. Vang’s status as a Community Outreach Worker. Part-time employment as a Commercial Property Security Officer to bring in funds to support his family of four young children has rounded out his knowledge of how to size up a situation, how to communicate clearly to resolve a confrontation or crisis, and how to call for appropriate necessary and critical support.
